Hello, Happy New Year! Valentine’s Day is the first major card making event of each year and it’s a nice change from making Christmas cards. I have started with an easy, clean and simple card using a new Hearts Background die from Sweet Dixie. I think it turned out very well.

Hand made Valentine card with ink blended die cut hearts background.

To Make The Card

Start with a piece of white card approx. 12cm x 12cm. Use an ink blending tool to create an ombre effect, coloured background. Use Spun Sugar Distress Oxide at the top and bottom of the piece of card, then add darker pink with Picked Raspberry and finally a band of purple across the centre with Wilted Violet. Make the purple band darker at the very centre. Cut the Hearts Background from the coloured card, make sure to save the small cut out hearts for use on another card. Cut the Hearts Background twice more both times from white card. Glue the three layers together to add dimension to the hearts layer. Adhere the hearts layer to the centre of a 5″ x 5″ white blank card.

Stamp the sentiment on to a strip of white card using Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide ink. Adhere the sentiment strip partially over the hearts background towards the bottom right corner, use double sided tape on the end that is over the hearts and a couple of 1mm adhesive foam pads to the other end to bring it up to the same height.

That’s all there is to it! Of course there are other things you could add if you wanted, such as matting and layering of coloured card underneath the hearts layer. Some bits of bling or a ribbon etc. I like it the way it is and hope that you do too. Thank you for visiting, all the supplies used are linked below.
