Hi I wanted to try a floating element card for a while so decided to make a Christmas one. It’s an easy technique and it’s a great way to use up left over strips of card. The strips are glued to acetate with small gaps in between, then die cut and mounted on foam tape to create the appearance of floating.

To Make The Card

Start with a 12.5cm square white blank card and layer it with gold mirror card, red card and then white card. For the floating element cut a piece of acetate approximately 8cm square, glue strips of card to the acetate with a small gap between each strip. The strips can be different widths and can include patterned strips, as I have. Die cut a circle approx 7cm diameter from the acetate and strips.

Cut a holly branch from gold mirror card and glue to the circular element. Use adhesive foam strips to adhere the element to the card front. Make sure the adhesive foam is only applied behind the strips of card so that it is not visible from the front.

Stamp the sentiment on piece of red card and heat emboss with gold, then mount it on gold mirror card. Adhere this to the bottom right hand corner of the card, again with adhesive foam tape. Finish off with some gold adhesive pearls. I am pleased with the end result, and will definitely be using this technique again as I have plenty of left over card strips.
