Hi, here’s a Valentine card in a rustic style, that would work equally well for a male or female recipient. Red, white and kraft always work well together, with the gingham print adding to the rustic feel. Dry embossing adds some texture and some gold and pearl provide just enough bling.

Hand made rustic style Valentine card with die cut hearts and a simple stamped sentiment.

To Make The Card

Start with a white A6 blank card and layer it with red card. Cut a piece of kraft card to 9.75cm x 14cm and ink the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide. Adhere this over the red layer. Cut a strip of red and white gingham card, 3cm x 14cm, ink the edges with Vintage Photo. Die cut four sizes of heart shape, one in red card, one in kraft, one in gingham and one in white. Ink the edges of all of them with more Vintage Photo. Emboss the kraft heart with the Trendy Hearts embossing folder, and add a 5mm natural pearl to the centre of the white heart. Adhere the gingham strip to the card front approx. 1.5cm in from the left side of the kraft layer. Use double sided tape to adhere the hearts, overlapping in opposite directions over the gingham strip.

Die cut a tiny heart, I had one left over from a previous card, if not the Love die creates a small heart shape. Press the heart into a Perfect Medium embossing ink pad, then sprinkle liberally with gold embossing powder. Place a small piece of greaseproof paper over the embossing powder and use a heat gun to melt it. The greaseproof paper stops the embossing powder from blowing away, and the melted powder doesn’t stick to it. Carefully lift away the greaseproof paper, if any of the powder remains, heat again until it has all melted and covered the heart. Allow it to cool for a minute and then adhere it to the large, red heart.

Finally stamp the sentiment in the bottom right corner using Vintage Photo Distress Oxide ink. I like the way the inked edges soften the whole appearance of the card, and using the same ink colour for the sentiment pulls it all together. I hope you like the card.
