Hi everyone, if you read my last newsletter you will know that I planned to make a short video about using the Tonic Studios Dot and Drop dies and Nuvo Drops. When I started making it I realised that it was actually going to be a bit boring 😂 so I took a series of photos instead to illustrate the process, and will find something a bit more exciting for the next video project. I chose some bright fresh colours for the card which would be lovely for Spring when it eventually arrives.

Here’s the finished card.

Hand made best wishes card with dot and drop die cutting and Nuvo drops.

And here are the steps to make it:

White Card Cut with Dot and Drop Die Arching Twirls

Cut a piece of white card 10.7 x 13.2cm, use the Arching Twirls Dot and Drop die to cut the design into the card. The dots are the guide for positioning the Nuvo drops.

Apply the Nuvo Drops along the dotted lines. I used Apple Green and Caribbean Ocean, I also needed a few practice runs to get the hang of creating evenly sized dots. The trick is to squeeze a dot out of the bottle then touch it down onto the card, pull the bottle away vertically so if there is a little trail it will fall down into the dot and not to the side, spoiling the shape. I also found that it helped to try and keep a steady rhythm. It is recommended to let the Nuvo Drops have 24 hours to dry so set this aside for a day or so.

Distress Oxide background using Peacock Feathers and Cracked Pistachio

In the meantime you can make your background panel. Cut a piece of white card 10 x 13cm. On a craft mat smoosh some of each colour of ink then spray with water, drag the card and dabble it in the ink until you have the coverage that you want. Dry with a heat gun to set. Add more colour with a blending tool if necessary.

Best Wishes stamped with Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide ink

Stamp the greeting in Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide ink on a strip of white card and layer with turquoise card to match the ink.

Dot and Drop die cut with Nuvo Drops on Distress Oxide background
Once the Nuvo Drops are dry glue your Distress Oxide background behind the die cut then layer the whole thing onto turquoise card.
Dot and Drop die with Nuvo Drops and Ribbon

Tie a length of green sheer ribbon around the panel from top to bottom, tie in a bow near the top and trim the tails neatly.

Take a 5 x 7inch white blank card and trim about 1inch off the height, cut light green a few mm smaller and glue to the card front, glue the ribbon tied panel to the centre of the card and use 1mm adhesive foam pads to attach the greeting in the bottom right hand corner.
Love the effect of the Nuvo Drops and the guides make it so easy to create the flourishes, I would never have been able to do it by eye! Love these colours as well, so fresh. I hope you like it too, please leave a comment to let me know what you think. All supplies are linked below.
