Hi everyone, I am always keen to find ways to use Christmas products all year round. For this card I used the Funky Wreaths die set and added pretty flowers to make it work as a birthday card.

Hand made birthday card with inked background and die cut floral wreath

To Make the Card

Start with a 12.5cm square white card blank and layer it with light purple card. Cut an 11.5cm square of white card. Take Wilted Violet and Peacock Feathers distress oxides and apply some of each to a heat resistant craft mat. Put the inks side by side covering an area roughly the size of the white card. Take a brayer and roll it through the inks so that in some places they combine and in others stay a single colour. Press the white card square into the ink pressing it down all over. Lift it off to see the background that you have created. Ink around the edges lightly with Wilted Violet. Adhere this to the card.

Die cut the leafy wreath in silver card, die cut one of each of the extra leaf stems also from silver card. Die cut three medium flowers and two small ones from purple card and an assortment of leaves from turquoise card. Add purple adhesive candies to the centres of the medium flowers and adhesive pearls to the small flowers.

Cut a strip of white card 11.5cm x 2cm, stamp the happy birthday greeting towards the left hand end of the strip. Ink around the edges lightly with Wilted Violet ink. Glue the wreath to the card front leaving part of the right hand side unglued so that the greeting strip can slide underneath it. Adhere the greeting strip in position overlapping the left side and under the right side of the wreath. Arrange the flowers and leaves and extra branches around the wreath and adhere in position. Finish off with three adhesive pearls on the left hand end of the greeting strip.

I think this is a great colour scheme for a winter birthday card, and the leafy wreath looks lovely with the flowers on. It is the first time I have used this technique to make an inked background and am delighted with the results. I will certainly be using it again and experimenting with different colour combinations. I hope you like it and are encouraged to look for other ways to use your Christmas stash. Thanks for visiting, all the supplies used are linked below.
