Hi, here’s the second card in my series of “Strips and Stripes”. I thought it would be fun to see how many different ways I could make card designs with stripes on, and maybe use up a few card scraps along the way. I didn’t use any card scraps for this one but did try a technique that is new to me.

Hand made birthday card with stripes of heat embossed double sided tape and die cut birthday.

To Make The Card

Start with a white 5″ x 7″ blank card, and trim it down slightly to 12.5cm x 17.5cm. This makes it easier to measure and cut the layers. Add a layer of matt silver card, 12cm x 17cm, then cut a piece of white card 11.5cm x 16.5cm. Adhere two strips of double sided tape across the white panel near the bottom. Swipe over them with an anti static pad, then peel off the liner tape. Sprinkle dark turquoise embossing powder over the strips of tape. Shake off the excess and check that you have good coverage of the tape. If necessary add more embossing powder until the tape is completely covered. Heat set the powder with a heat gun. Repeat this step two more times using a lighter shade of turquoise each time. Heat set one colour at a time so that the excess powders don’t get mixed.

Die cut the word Birthday from matt silver card and adhere above the embossed strips. Trim the word Happy from a Wordies sentiment sheet, and glue it just above the die cut birthday so that it is between the loop of the “b” and the loop of the “h”. Adhere the silver panel to the card front with the embossed panel on top of that. Finish off with some turquoise self adhesive crystals.

I am very pleased with the end result, I particularly like the sparkly embossing powder. As is often the case this could be made in lots of different colour schemes, to suit the recipient. Thank you for visiting, I hope you like it too. If you want to try it for yourself, all the products used are linked below.
