Hi everyone, our garden is full of bees at the moment, so I thought a bee themed card would work well at this time of year. The black and yellow colour scheme goes without saying, a few touches of gold just added some shine.

Hand made birthday card with bees and honeycomb.

To Make the Card

Start with a 5″ x 5″ white blank card and layer it with black and yellow card. Cut a piece of white card slightly smaller than the yellow layer and die cut the honeycomb shape from the centre. Take out the honeycomb and all the little hexagons of card that fill it and set them aside. Use the chicken wire embossing folder to emboss the white card with a hexagon design. Make sure you die cut first and emboss second or the die cutting will flatten out the embossing when you run it through your machine. Adhere the white layer on top of the yellow and glue the honeycomb framework into it’s outline. Die cut the honeycomb again this time from gold card. Pop out some of the hexagons and use them to fill some of the spaces in the framework.

Die cut three large bees from white card and colour them with black and yellow marker pens. Adhere these to the card using foam pads so that they are raised above the surface. Bend the wings upwards slightly to give them more shape.

Swipe a strip of black card with an anti static pad and stamp the Happy Bee-day greeting. Heat emboss with opaque white embossing powder. Adhere the sentiment to the card using foam pads. Take a pale yellow, paper flower from the pack and gently remove the stamen and stem. Colour the flower with the same yellow marker pen that you used for the bees. Colour the stamen black, then put it back and trim off most of the stem. Adhere the flower to the card at the end of the sentiment strip. Add a few gold sequins and there you are.

Make a co-ordinating envelope by embossing the chicken wire design onto the envelope flap, a lovely addition to a unique card.
