Hand Made Christmas Card with Stenciled Background and Stamped Vellum Greeting

Hi Everyone, another Christmas card this time with a stencilled background and a bit of experimentation with distress ink and Glimmer Mist –  read on all will be revealed!!

Start with a white A6 blank card, cut a piece of gold card to 14.5 x 9.5cm and attach this to the centre of the card blank.

The finished red panel measures 14.5 x 8.5cm, start with a piece of watercolour card stock a bit bigger than that, use stencil tape to tape your card to your craft sheet and the stencil over the card stock. Spread Opaque texture paste over the stencil as evenly as possible, peel off the stencil and leave the stencil paste to dry, this can take up to a couple of hours depending on your environment. ( I had a few other things to do so left this to dry but you could probably speed it up with a heat gun).

Here’s the fun bit, once the stencil paste is dry, smoosh red distress ink on to your craft mat and spray a generous amount of gold Glimmer Mist over it. Mix these together with your paint brush and paint over the stencilled card. Either leave it to dry or use a heat gun to dry it immediately and you are left with a gorgeous red/gold shimmery finish. It’s so nice when things turn out well! Trim the stencilled panel to the required size.

Cut a strip of white vellum to about 19 x 3cm, stamp and heat emboss Merry Christmas in gold (the stamp had a line of smaller text below it but I cut this off). Position the vellum strip over the red panel, fold the ends around the back of the panel and tape in place, then attach the panel with the vellum over the centre of the gold card.

A couple of gold sequins on the vellum strip finished it off.

I am very pleased with the way this turned out, I wasn’t sure if the Glimmer Mist would work in the distress ink but as it is water based I was hopeful and in the end got exactly the effect that I wanted.
